Mealtime

So glad he has returned.  The Great Spotted Woodpecker and his progeny have been coming to the garden for years together with the Green Woodpecker - the Yaffle - who usually arrives later on looking for ants in the lawn.  This woodpecker hammers away at the trunk of a tree 10 to 16 strikes a second, his skull is specially designed to take the impact and his nostrils are narrow for protection against any flying debris.  The hammering is to make contact with other woodpeckers and is territorial.

Routine visit to the surgery.  It takes a long time to make an appointment but when I arrived there were many empty places in the carpark and the waiting room, which has been made smaller since Covid, was nearly empty!  I really don't understand what is happening .....

Attended a WEA lecture via zoom entitled "Hidden Art History? LGBTQ+ Identities in Art since 1400",  and then later on I  watched the last episode of Marie Antoinette.
