High Up

Yesterday it was very foggy and partly rainy day. However, we decided to go at last to Nuuksio National Park, about 40 km from us. We have never been there, but have planned it long.

Nuuksio National Park is one of Finland's 40 national parks. Established in 1994, the park spreads over a large area of forests and lakes in the capital region.

The weather wasn't a problem.
This time we wanted to see only the exhibitions and other services in the main building, Haltia, the Finnish Nature Centre. The national park comprises the westernmost part of the so-called Nuuksio lake highlands, and as can be seen in my main picture we were quite high up in the building. I took the picture through a glass with runoff rainwater, that's why it's smudgy in addition to the fog.

In the extra there is the "Snowy Canyon" leading to the main exhibition, the  space describing life on the snow, in it and under it. In the space there was e.g. a huge, very impressive nature panorama wall.

The whole week has been much more peaceful for ages, a much-needed break to arrange so many necessary things. We both have the name days on close dates, and this event was meant to be a kind of a small celebration. Much joy and empowerment.

Great place. We'll be back there to see and experience the accessible nature trail sections by the mopeds.
