Castlesteads, Lowther

I was a bit wiped out by yesterday’s antics so just did a bit in the garden and then headed out for a short amble at Lowther and picked my first wild garlic of the year.

It’s thought that these earthworks could be the remains of an early timber castle (referred to as castellum de Lauudre in 1174) and/or an old medieval Pele tower. Although you’d never know it was there now it’s in a commanding position above the river Lowther.
