Fiesta Day

It is a rest day for us walkers.
The capital of LaPalma, Santa Cruz de La Palma is about a 3 mile walk away from our hotel so L and I headed off there to have a look around.  We had an idea that a party was afoot as our hotel is crowded with locals. As we walked along the promenade towards the centre of the city, we saw more and more folk dressed up in white converging on the town square.
As we arrived in the town square (image above) it was already very busy and crowded.  The dancing and partying had already started as folk from all over came in on ferries from the other islands and coaches from all over La Palma. They expect around 60,000 people to party all day and night in the city alone!  Oh and it has become a tradition to celebrate by throwing copious amounts of talcum powder or flour all over each other. We stayed a short time until the risk of a powder shower became to great and the noise and crowd became to much for us.
