South Coast Scribblings

Mother and daughter

These are both taken at the top of the tower at Porchester Castle, near Portsmouth, about 30 years apart.  Mine was taken in early 1978, and I’m guessing Mum’s was taken in the late forties/early fifties.  I was aged 23.

It is interesting to see how informally I am dressed compared to Mum.  Also, in the background, you can see Portsdown Hill.  In the older photo there has been no chalk mining in the area shown.  In my photo you can see the chalk pit and also a lot of development which had taken place on the lower slopes of the hill in those thirty years.

As you may guess, I am busy sorting photos today.  It is the first time I have put these two photos side by side.
