Sunday Morning

Back Blip.  A walk from Dunston to Newcastle Quayside where the famous market is held every Sunday morning.  Records show that it dates back to 1736 but there may have been a market there is some form for many years before that.

Today, it mainly sells street food, local produce, crafts. photos of the area etc.  In the 1960's I remember it was very different to today's market - lots of stall holders with very strong characters trying to offload their wares to people at knockdown prices.  One stall holder used to juggle with the crockery he was selling.  I'm sure I remember birds, kittens and puppies being sold at the market in those days.

It has always been very enjoyable place to go and always has a great atmosphere.  This photo is taken just at the very start of the market.
