Quarry Bank Mill

We set off to visit a National Trust property nearby, Quarry Bank Mill was a cotton mill which has been preserved and shows the machinery working, with the waterwheel and demonstrations of spinning & weaving by hand to the steam driven machines.
Mr Toads grandma worked in a similar mill in Rochdale she was made deaf from the noise of the machine as were most of the workers (within a year so the demonstrator told us) & they could all lip read as any conversation was impossible above the noise.
There were some beautiful gardens to walk around and a kitchen garden was being renovated with the original Victorian greenhouses so another visit will have to be had next year.
