Walking the Union Canal

Today we met up with friends and visited Ratho, where we enjoyed an excellent lunch at the Bridge Inn, followed by a stroll along the Union canal. This was the first time we had visited here in a very long time. We arrived a bit late, having taken the most direct route - the A71, which initially seems to pass through every village and town in Ayrshire. The 60 mile journey took 1¾ hours. The 70 mile return via the M8 took 20 minutes less. Nevertheless, it was an enjoyable day and pleasantly warm in the sunshine.
