Life in Newburgh on Ythan

By Talpa

Keeping the neighbours at bay.

Our daily walk often takes us past Knockhall, our ruinous local castle. The castle is well equipped with gun loops set at different heights so as to inconvenience intruders at ankle, knee or head height. What a very belligerent species we have always been!

The yellow patches are colonies of a lichen known as  the maritime sunburst lichen Xanthoria parietina. As the common name suggests it flourishes near to the sea.
