Botanical Printing

This morning I attended a half day course in Botanical Printing on Paper with the botanical printer and natural dye artist, Elisabeth Viguie Culshaw. An exhibition of her work has just opened at the Auld Kirk Museum in Kirkintilloch and the course was run by East Dunbartonshire Leisure & Culture to compliment the exhibition. It was very enjoyable.
The process started with us choosing leaves that Elisabeth had prepared, laying them on a piece of cloth then laying the paper on top and rolling them up around a dowel before fixing with elastic bands. They were then plunged into a vat of simmering botanical dye and left for an hour.
Much oohing and aahing took place as we unrolled our creations! I now have two pieces of printed paper and two pieces of cloth to find a home for :-)
