Yowes at Gateside

A lovely day, light breeze, mostly cloudy with sunny spells, and cold.  Calm, cold and clear tonight.

Up fairly early, popped the keys back to the shop, and met bro Jonny.  We headed north to meet the family.  I was working in the airport this afternoon and evening.  The airport is closed due to HIAL staff striking, but us Loganair staff still had to attend, even though we couldn't fly our planes.  A lovely evening for walkies around the village, plenty of others doing the same.  Feet up by the fire now.

A sad day saying our goodbyes to uncle Charlie (Gilbertson).  The funeral was held in the Hillswick Hall, and buried at the Eshaness graveyard.  A lovely service, and happy memories of a true gentleman.  Great to catchup with the family and aunt Margaret, some family I've not seen in years now.  We had tea, soup, sandwiches and sweets back at the hall, where we finished off with old family stories.  Charlie reached the grand age of 92, a few weeks away from 93.  He'll be missed, but I'm sure he would have loved the family send off today.  He lived away for many years, so my first memory of him was when I was a young boy and the family were up for holidays in the mid 1980s.  The stayed next door to this house, which was much smaller.  Sadly the old Roadside house has been demolished and a new house on site.  They moved back to Shetland in 1989, and his lasses soon followed.  Ewes outside Gateside, Urafirth, Hillswick.
