Today we explored the spectacular Argentine Islands, a small group of islets off the west coast of the Palmer Peninsular, West Antarctica. The islands were discovered by the French Antarctic Expedition in 1903-05. In 1947, the British Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey established a permanent base in these islands. In 1954 a new British base was built, Faraday Station, but in 1996 it transferred to the Ukrainian Antarctic Programme, which is still operating as the Vernadsky Research Base.

“We travel, in essence, to become young fools again - to slow time down and get taken in, and fall in love once more”. (Why we Travel, Pico Lyer)
