Ghost pipefish - Malapascua Island

Represented by a single genus: Solenostomus. Ghostpipefishes have brooding females that use their large ventral fins to form a pouch.
The fins are held together like flattened hands and the upper edge (or inner ray) of each fin hooks onto small ventro-lateral body spines.

Aquarium kept specimens appeared to change sex as of the 5 individuals, 4 became brooding females. It’s assumed males change to female when circumstances demand this.
