Always in the news!

Most will recognise this building, I used to work in this place some years ago.  This image was taken from Spender's Walk, named after Sir Wilford Spender who was the first cabinet secretary to the newly established Government of Northern Ireland in 1921.  Sir Wilford also served as a general staff officer to the 36th Ulster Division in First World War, and after the Battle of the Somme he said, "I am not an Ulsterman but yesterday, the 1st July, as I followed their amazing attack, I felt that I would rather be an Ulsterman than anything else in the world".  Not a bad complement from an Englishman!

I also walked this path during my lunch breaks and often thought of Sir Wilfred Spender.
