Terry had his hospital appointment this morning. It was with a Mr Kirin Saldhana who is not on the hip team but is an experienced orthopaedic surgeon and specialises in lower limb ops. He has done hips but nowhere near the number of knees he's done.
He showed Terry his xrays where there is no cartilage left between the head of his femur and his hip socket.
He asked Terry how his left hip replacement is and Terry said it's excellent. He noted that Mr Emms had done it and asked Terry would he like Mr Emms to do his other one since he'd done the first one.
Mr Saldhana has done an internal referral to Mr Emms for surgery. Mr Emms is the top man for hip replacements. Terry had thought he was being given the choice of Mr Emms in the first place as the physio had said he'd be given a choice but perhaps with her doing the urgent referral, he only got the choice once he was at his initial appointment. Anyway, he's happy Mr Emms will be doing it but feels a bit like this initial appointment was a waste. He's also hoping he doesn't have to wait long because the pain is severe and he can barely walk. Standing makes his foot go numb and this is increasing in frequency and length of time.
I took the photo on a walk from Morrisons to the bus stop after Terry had gone back to his shop - which he has now closed. He will be finishing off the jobs pending at his shop but won't be opening up.
