Vintage Museum

This is the original Dorset Museum, now used for functions as all the exhibits have been moved to the new building around it.  The new museum, in Dorchester, is a very tidy place, with loads of exhibits of interest to anyone, I reckon.

That’s a Roman mosaic forming part of the floor, a remarkable piece of ancient history.

And one of the volunteers mentioned that she went to school in the Middle East, which turned out to be at RAF Khormaksar in Aden, in the early 1960s.  I was at school there at the same time, but my father wasn't serving in the RAF so I was at the civilian school, the Isthmus School, so called because Aden was on a large lump of land attached to the mainland by an isthmus.

It was a great place to be a child, but we colonials were turfed out by the disenchanted locals.  Before he returned to the UK my father had a grenade lobbed at his car on the way to work one morning.  The Brits had overstayed any welcome that there might once have been.  Again.
