OLDWAY MANSION

Mr A's great grandmother Marry Grace Hancock was House Maid here to Charlotte and Caroline CHAMPERNOWNE whose family owned nearby Dartington Hall.

Mary Grace moved later to Yorkshire and "founded" Mr A's maternal side of his family.

When Charlotte died in 1899 she left estate valued at 7.3 million in todays value.

Oldway Mansion built by Isaac Singer in 1875 of sewing machine fame.  His son Paris lived here with Isadora Duncan the society dancer.

Oldway Mansion sits high above Paignton which is very over rated and rundown.  The woofs enjoyed a run on the sandy beach but the weather wasn't very pleasant so we were glad to get  back in the warm of the car.
