Paris-Brest

I first made my son-in-law, who was quite a keen cyclist, a Paris-Brest for his birthday when my grandchildren were little. We used to do lots of cooking together. I thought the circular shape was because the cycle race first run in 1891, from which it gets its name, is a circular route which starts in Paris, proceeds to Brest and returns to Paris. The children and I decorated it with the course. I was very impressed by my young grandson's drawing of the Eiffel Tower and my granddaughter drew the beach at Brest. I've read today that the circle of choux pastry represents a bicycle wheel not the route. Happy birthday for tomorrow to my son-in-law, he's more into running than cycling these days.
