Deception Island

We explored this stunning island, entering through a narrow passage of sea known as Neptune’s Bellows, into an exquisite bay, a sea filled volcanic crater. A flat cinder beach extends approximately 330 ft inland before meeting the steep volcanic crater walls. A British Antarctic Survey base was evacuated here during the last eruption in 1967. The island is home to thousands of fur seals and chin strap penguins.

The extra shows Neptune’s Bellows, the entrance to the crater from the sea.

Thank you for all your wonderful comments, stars and hearts over the past days. I so appreciate them all.
