Aquamarine/Nanna K's Day

Tonight we went to the members only behind the scenes at the “new” Burke Museum.   We used to love these at the old museum….dark dingy crowded rooms in the basement with tons of interesting cultural and natural history specimens, and so many very enthusiastic university people to talk about their fields.  This one is different, based on letting the public see more of the labs.    The blip is a young girl who saw this big bird in one of the drawers and got someone to move it to the front so she could sketch it. .. the heaviest bird in the world that can still fly.  ( up to 44 pounds)   Another in the extra so you can see the head.    And a glimpse of the very light clean storerooms with some of the crowd and 2 lovely swans.   Disappointing we couldn’t see more northwest coast artifacts but heard a fascinating story of repatriating a Māori rock pictograph taken illegally from New Zealand and packed up to take back this week. ( couldn’t get a photo)
Interesting….. but the old place seemed more fun.
