The National Glass Centre, Sunderland.

The centre will close in 3 years. The building is too expensive to heat. It is run by Sunderland University and is part of a joint organisation promoting culture in Sunderland.  It will be a massive miss. The location of the building is right on the side of the river Wear opposite the working docks. It was very busy today. Sunderland has a history of glassworks and some of the most beautiful and well known glass was made here. Every piece of Pyrex kitchenware in the world was made in Sunderland.  Almost everyone in Britain has or had a piece of Pyrex in their cupboards. If you didn't then your parents or grandparents probably did.
The site will probably be used for a university building or the ubiquitous luxury flats. It is a prime location.  Does anyone build flats that are not luxury?
The people who I know who work there were very concerned about their futures.
