Horsetail

Here's another really common plant that deserves a closer look. The Common Horsetail, Equisetum arvense, is really striking when the spikes are first emerging in the spring with these fascinating spore-bearing structures at the top.

Had a wonderful long walk around Silverdale and Arnside today, but it was dull almost all day. Hardly a butterfly to be seen - just Green-veined White and Speckled Wood - but plenty of nice plants coming on now. I ended up with a number of possible blips, but in the end I really liked the shot of Horsetails.
