The sleepers

... at Weatherhill, north of Stanhope.  I am guessing they were erected as a snow barrier - they will have probably originated from the Stanhope & Tyne Railway which was sited a few yards to the right.  A nearby winding engine hauled limestone wagons up the steep hill from Stanhope.  You get some idea of the incline in the extra.
