‘“You're Never Last at parkrun”’

It's true because the last person to finish is always a volunteer -  the ‘Tail Walker’!

Their role is precisely that - to be a friendly and encouraging face who finishes right at the back of the field, appearing last in the results and ensuring everyone is accounted for.

To reinforce parkrun’s commitment to encouraging walking at it's events, parkrun has recently created the additional role of ‘parkwalker’. Positioned ahead of the Tail Walker, but still walking, the park walker’s brief is specifically to provide encouragement and support to walkers, often in small groups.

Today, in beautiful sunny but chilly weather, the park walker was accompanying a first-timer who, as they approached the finish, broke into a jog, in order to finish the 5-kilometre course in less than 60 minutes!
