We drove to a lovely little town in the highfeld, 3 hours in  the land rover, for the night to go and see this wonderful centre where damaged birds are brought and rehabilitated, then returned to the wild if they are thought to be able to survive.
The little wood owl will not go wild, he was damaged by a car and is not fully functional and has been imprinted to humans (they believe it was a pet); the raptor,  a long crested eagle, will be released as soon as he is strong enough.  He has been tagged to allow them to keep track of him; the crow will soon be released and the bataleur, being held by Dave, my brother in law, is a youngster at 7 years old and again was hurt by a vehicle and had one wing damaged.  Vets fixed the wing but the bird needs to get strong before it will be released.  They don't mature until about 10-12 years.
It was a fabulous afternoon...until the rain came!
Later we had a lovely meal in one of the many restaurants and slept well in the Old Transvaal Inn, when we could finally find our way in. With load shedding the place was locked, but eventually we did find the security guard with the information and key to let us in.
