Turnstone

North Wales (except where we are), the Midlands and North of England are covered in snow today. Apart from some flurries this morning we have had nothing but rain all day. I’m disappointed to miss the snow as we rarely get any!

We went to the Menai Straits to watch for waders. We saw curlews, redshanks, oyster catchers and a flock of turnstones. They were rooting about in the vegetation on the edge of the water and turning plant matter rather than stones. They have such magnificent camouflage.

We crossed the bridge onto Anglesey but by this time the rain was so heavy that we decided against the walk that we had planned. My extra photo is of the beach late afternoon in a short lull between the periods of rain.
