Spot the birds

Our wildlife camera picked up these two birds in the garden this morning, though they are well camouflaged.
 
The question is: what are they?
 
The best guess so far is that they are grey partridges.  Or they could be young female pheasants.
What do you think?
 
Talking of garden wildlife our next-door neighbour informed me she woke up to find six deer, yes six, sitting on her lawn.
Thankfully they have not yet made it into our garden so all our barricading seems to work apart from that one stray stag who managed to get in the other day.
