Setting off

After breakfast we headed along the river side again and as we approached the market area I noticed this elderly woman preparing to launch her boat presumably on a fishing trip.

She got in and took off her boots, tossed her socks in a bucket and fixed some loose planks of wood . She then pulled up the anchor, a large rock attached to a rope , and immediately started the engine and off she went.

We headed up one of the narrow streets as I was keen to see the Precious Heritage Art Gallery Museum that we had picked up a leaflet about.
It features the works of the French portrait photographer Réhahn who has spent years researching and photographing the many ethnic tribes of Vietnam and in the process has collected many traditional costumes and artefacts. Some of his photographs are very well known and they are stunning especially in the large size of prints he has displayed.

We spent a while viewing the photos and exhibits and intend to go back tomorrow for another look before we head off in the late afternoon on the final leg of our trip to Saigon.

We then headed to a lovely bakery and sat drinking coffee and watching the street scene with bikes and mopeds going by with all the horn tooting they do to warn everyone they don’t intend to stop !

Back to the hotel for a swim and relaxation by the pool and then watched a wedding taking place.

We have really enjoyed our time in Hoi An , the pace of life and the friendly people have been charming.
