The coffin route.

We parked in Grasmere and walked to Rydal on the coffin route...

Refreshments at Rydal Hall, then we turned back towards Grasmere and walked by the edge of Rydal Water then Grasmere Lake. ( nearly 7 miles )

The weather was quite pleasant...good to see the snow on the fells!

The blip was taken as we approached Grasmere.

Why Coffin Route you may ask? The only consecrated ground for burial in the area was at St Oswalds Church in Grasmere. Therefore coffins were carried from Rydal to Grasmere along The Coffin Route, or Corpse road.
