On Gallows Down

I went to a talk by the author of this book - Nicola Chester at the Grosvenor Hotel in Shaftesbury. They have a book festival related to Nature every two years so Nicola’s talk was the key event for this year. She was inspiring but also very moving with an infectious laugh . She recounted how she had come to write about her experiences with the land and Nature as she grew up in Berkshire in tied cottages . She explained the need to ‘own’ where we live and to fight for the Natural world around us . She moved me to tears at one point when she told of the destruction of the last few lapwings nests by chemicals in the land close to her . 
A good chat with Stan and we’ve set him on thinking about his pension despite having many years to go !!
