Memorial Bench

Yesterday Mr YB and myself were sitting on a bench in Russell Square in London.  Memorial benches showing a plaque dedicated to a lost love one are very popular in the UK and I always like to read them.  The one we were sitting on was a little different.  It was dedicated to Dr Tim Dunne who spent hours studying there between 1992 and 1994.  I really liked it.

There was a reason we were sitting in Russell Square.  We left our hotel in Godalming just after 10.00 am and caught a train to Waterloo and made our way to Kings Cross Station for our train back to Newcastle at 1.00 pm.  when we arrived it said that there had been some minor electrical fault on the east coast line and trains were running a bit late.  Our train was showing as running about 15 minutes late.  When it close got to 1.00 pm the message on the board changed and it suddenly said our train was cancelled.

To cut a long story short we could not get seats on another train until 5.00 pm (we definitely did not want to stand all the way from London to Newcastle) so we had quite a lot of time to fill in while we waited for our train.  We spent ages sitting in a cafe having lunch, then we went and sat in Russell Square for quite a long time but it was starting to get cold so we did a longish walk (not easy humping luggage around) and then we made our way back to the station and sat for quite a long time.

Thankfully, our train was almost on time and we were back home for about 8.30 pm.  We were very tired.  Apart from the delay we have had a great time seeing our son and his fiancee and of course Pepsi the puppy and hearing all about the plans for their wedding which will take place next spring.
