The Wilding Definitives!

These are the pre-decimal stamps I remember as a child popping through the letterbox, so I have a rather romantic memory of them.   I decided to take this image at an angle rather than square on.  This range of definitive stamps began the late Queen's reign in 1952 and continued in use up until 1967 I think, when a new design by Arnold Machin replaced them.

Known as Wilding Definitive stamps because the effigy of the late Queen's head was taken by the society photographer Dorothy Wilding.  She was an established society photographer from as early as 1914 and had photographed most of the Royal Family, including George V and Edward VIII.

Its worth Googling Dorothy Wilding, she had an interesting photographic career.
