Underneath the Arches

The forecast said a huge chance of rain, 86%, I think it was. It looked good out so off I went. As I drove I noticed a few spots on the screen so stopped a bit earlier than planned and went down to Holcombe.

The railway runs along the front and these lovely old victorian steps go up to the sea wall to the prom which goes all the way to Teignmouth. I wonder if Mr Brunel designed them himself? He probably left it to an underling but they've done a nice job. I suspect those railings have been added later. Perhaps the originals (if there were any) were melted down for the war effort.
