A Tough People

(Yesterday’s backblipped just now.)

Glad/Sad to be leaving this beautiful/desolate valley and the hospitality of the Snow Leopard Trails Lodge. This lady’s family own the land on which the Lodge is built and they still live a hard traditional life with their few cows, yaks and goats. Now their life is supplemented by money from tourism as they have guests in their own « homestay » rooms. I can’t imagine living with different strangers every few days is an easy experience. Every day she sat on this raised seat in the sun seemly to meditate. When she got up from her seat she limped badly to her next task. She lives a world away from our comfortable lives where we have medical help on hand. We take photos of this « authentic life » but we know we could never live it. Maybe her children have already left this hard life behind, we did not see any younger generation.

The extra is of Annelinde and myself with the Ladakh Range in the background before dropping onto the plains of Leh with their sprawling military zones.
