Walking Day

Bit of a random short walks day today.

Our first walk was along the River Dove at Milldale.  We had planned to make this a circular walk, but looking at the path back on the other side, and it's general 'thinness' and 'muddiness', and 'almost falling into the river-ness' we opted to make it a there a back walk.  We were treated to a short shower at the furthest extent, so were happy to return on the good path.  We also saw a dipper diving into the river for food (first extra) - I think it's caught a fish of some kind.

From there was drove slightly up the road and ate lunch in Wetton with a view of a couple of Highland Cattle.

We then drove through to a tea room at Wetton Mill.  We expected it to be closed, but as we drove past it looked to be open.  We were happy to give them some custom for a tea and a lovely toffee apple cake.

We carried on driving up the River Manifold along what was probably an old railway line.  There was a very long road tunnel at one point, just wide enough for a single car, and it looked to have been built for the railway.

From there will did some further driving and ended up doing a walk to the trig point at The Roaches.  The wind blew hard, and the rain came in again at one point, but we had a great walk.  The other two extras are from this walk.

After that we needed a little calm, so drove to Tittesworth Reservoir where we watched the rabbits in the car park then took a short walk.

We returned to the cottage via the local fish and chip shop and had lovely fish (and scampi) for dinner.
