Slot Track Photography

A very quick edit of one of my many images from this evening's camera club session at Slot Track Scenics.   Irene is photographing one of the cars on the descending part of the Red Bull Ring in Austria.

A few odd facts:
The base boards are 15mm MDF.
Once the customer has settled on a design the layout is cut on a CNC machine, 7mm deep for the track and ~2mm for the gravelled run-off areas.
Under the cross-overs the cut is ~9mm to allow for the electronics.
There is a 2mm allowance for expansion so on a warm day all of the track joints close up tightly.

We were all very impressed with the level of precision needed to get the standard of work we saw.

The things we learn unexpectedly .... there's a pole dancing school on the same industrial estate ... and there I was thinking Kineton was such a restrained little place :-)
