More conference responsibilities

Ok, I know it’s a boring blip but it’s the beginning of another evening writing “thank you” emails to the speakers, musicians, caterers and all the others who made our conference such a success.
I’ve been to plenty of conferences over the decades (Veterinary, Rotary and others), all held at purpose built venues with everything included in the package - interesting, educational, sometimes enjoyable but bland and plastic. We went 300kms west to an agricultural pavilion/munitions factory where each service needed to be sourced independently. That’s an enormous risk but with risk comes reward and we’ve pulled it off with a string of hurdles but all negotiated successfully.
Among other speakers we were able to present the Japanese Ambassador, Australia’s pre-eminent epidemiologist to speak on covid management, Australia’s chief negotiator at the COP26 climate change conference in Glasgow and the recently retired Chief of NSW Homicide.
I’ve got my cheese and bikkies ready and a Scotch to help them down so away we go.
