Some Surgery Required

A rather abrupt change of plans occurred yesterday afternoon.  Very unfortunately, a fellow passenger fell whilst on a steep bird watching hike on Tristan da Cunha.  He ended up with a double fracture in his shoulder -- it must be absolutely agonizing.  How they managed to get him back on the ship via the  Zodiacs is beyond my imagination, as the swells were big and getting on and off those little rubber boats was a daunting challenge for even the fittest amongst us, but manage they did.

After the medical team on board assessed his condition, it was decided that he needs to be taken immediately to Cape Town for treatment, so our plans to visit Gough Island today have been scrubbed, and the ship is proceeding at top speed to South Africa.

In less dramatic news, our air conditioning was not working in our cabin, so our lovely butler, Vinay corralled an engineer to come investigate the issue.  Here he is wielding a spanner, and probing the mysterious gubbins hidden behind a ceiling panel above our bed.  I'm happy to report that this "surgery" was successful!

PS:  My apologies for my lack of comments ... as you can imagine, the internet signal aboard is less than optimal, and it takes a very long time to upload, etc!
