Kilberry

Kilberry is a tiny ancient settlement  about 14 miles from Tarbert  on the Knapdale Peninsula and faces towards Islay and Gigha.

It was where the archaeologist, writer  and strong nationalist Marion Campbell lived and from which she took her family name of Campbell of Kilberry.   I remember reviewing her book on Alexander II for the Herald, which was her last work I think.

It is also the site of the renowned  Kilberry Inn but until yesterday  I had never visited it although I had driven past a few times.

Ages ago we agreed to go for the night with some friends and I am glad we did so.   It was wonderful and we will be back.
