Today's the day ......................... for the Legend of King Arthur

A trip to the Opticians in Penrith and then, on the way home a visit to Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery  in Carlisle to see the new exhibition running until June 3rd entitled 'The Legend of King Arthur - a Pre-Raphaelite Love Story'.

After falling out of fashion in the late Middle Ages, the 19th century saw a renewed interest in the Arthurian legend. The exhibition explores the legend of King Arthur within the Victorian imagination, presenting national myths and legends through the eyes of Pre-Raphaelite artists.  This is a little bit of one of the two enormous tapestries on display.  They are from a set of six designed by Edward Burne-Jones and William Morris, depicting the knights' quest for the Holy Grail.

The tapestries were originally woven for Stanmore Hall, a country house in Harrow, West London.  This particular one called The Attainment  was purchased by guitarist Jimmy Page in 1978 and lent to this exhibition from his collection .....................
