I might have to intervene

I love the shape of this tree on the heath, but when admiring it this morning I noticed the ivy making it's way skyward creating some lovely patterns on the trunk, sadly it will gradually kill the host so I think I might just put my secateurs in my pocket and cut through the ivy hopefully saving the tree.
