Depending on your point of view, the camel ride was either the highlight or the lowpoint of our Moroccan tour. Undoubtedly, it took us to a spectacular point in the dunes east of Merzouga, close to the border with Algeria. However, I am not sure I am cut out for camel riding (probably one of the most uncomfortable hours I've ever spent - and Helen suffered even worse, getting a big bruise on her leg from gripping tightly to stay upright).

We started the day with a trip to a Berber village (bought a small handmade carpet as a souvenir) and then walked through the Dades Gorge. On our way to Merzouga, we also stopped off at a fossil place - very exciting for our geologist friend Nancy.

We stayed in a desert camp - 'glamping' - but it was very cold, dropping to near freezing point overnight. Thankfully, there was a heater, but it took a while to warm the place up.
