Nicky and her Nikon

And then it snowed!

Today we woke up to clear skies but dull, flat light. I forgot about the clocks going forward and could not work out why my bedside clock differed from the time on my phone.

After breakfast we went for a walk with Xena, there is no snow at all in the village and it is looking like spring with blossoms on some trees and crocuses and snowdrops on the ground. After our walk we went grocery shopping and bumped into a friend in the supermarket who told us that snow is forecast for later today and much more tomorrow. Although there is no snow in the village I believe the snow up on the mountain is very good so at least they will still have a ski season for the easter school holidays.

Klosters, the village we are in, lies at the base on one side of Gotschna mountain with Davos on the other side and they share a common skiing area at the top of this mountain. Unfortunately - or rather fortunately - on checking the gondola from our village up to the mountain top they discovered that the main thick cable was in need of maintenance and actually needs to be replaced. So the gondola from our side of the mountain is out of action until the summer, as it takes months to get a new cable, and if we want to ski we have to get the train around the mountain to Davos (or we can drive there). It's a bit inconvenient for skiers having to do this, but thank goodness this fault was discovered and a possible tragic accident was avoided. That would have been disastrous for the village. The gondola is called the King Charles gondola (it used to be the Prince Charles gondola) as it was named after him many years ago, so it would not have been good for him if people had died in an accident in a gondola named after him!

In the afternoon it started snowing, when I took this photo, but it only settled on higher ground - see extra. The snow turned to rain and so we decided to stay in and watch TV. We are enjoying watching Daisy Jones and The Six on Prime TV as we have both read the book, it is a fictitious story of a rock band in California, loosely based on Fleetwood Mac. The music is fabulous in the TV show and we are enjoying it very much.

By late after noon the snow stopped and we had blue skies for a while so we took Xena out for another walk on the golf course. There was no one else around and the golf course is closed in winter to golfers. When we got back we watched the Cambridge vs Oxford boat race, and Cambridge won both the women's and the mens races, woohoo!

It has started snowing again, tomorrow is meant to be a wipe out so the village should get some snow settling in it again.
