Peveril of the Peak

I met Rick in Manchester to do some geocaching adlabs today. Three of them, comprising 5 stages each, involved pubs so naturally we went inside a few of the 15 to check them out. My favourite was the Peveril of the Peak which is a pub I haven't been in for more than 35 years.

The Peveril was first registered as a public house in 1830 and it is suggested that it commemorates a horse-drawn stagecoach that departed from the nearby Peacock Coach Office on Market Street. Another possibility is that is named after the Sir Walter Scott novel of the same name.
