Adventure

Not content with yesterday’s exertions we had another adventure today. Stunning weather…cold but wall to wall sunshine the whole day, which is probably my idea of perfection.
Left T in bed whilst I walked down to town for a Board meeting which was all straightforward and constructive, then came home for morning rolls for brunch and we set off to Fife (listening to the election news of our new First Minister and explaining politics to T) to do the chain walk part of the coastal path near Elie. I’ve been intrigued by this for a long time but never been there so it took quite a lot of research to establish where to park and how to find the start, but after a lovely walk around the edge of a golf course and across a beach we found it. Great fun to scramble around the rocks hanging onto the chunky chain…bit like yesterday without the safety harnesses! Up and down between coves and explored a cave. Some strange basalt column type rocks in places, and a cove of entirely large round dark grey pebbles and boulders, all the time with sparkling light on the sea, amazing views and a lot of laughs. We got too warm and ended up having to tie our jackets and jumpers around our waists as we climbed, then at the end we climbed up to the top of the cliff and lay in the sun for a rest enjoying the sun. Gorgeous!
Walked back to the car across the beautiful but deserted golf course then drove round into the village to go to the Ship Inn where we had drinks on the terrace overlooking the beach and watched the tide coming in. Enjoyed some nibbles out there, then came indoors for more drinks and some dinner. Unusually it was really quiet and we practically had the place to ourselves so had prime seats right by the wood fire, played some games of Connect 4 and Scrabble (a strange set with a number of non-English letters, at least two sets of tiles, and a board written in another language - didn’t know what!). Given that T had said yesterday not enough pubs had open fires nowadays it was perfect! Lovely sunset and it was still light in the sky as we set off home about 8.30pm. Good chat on the way back, then a welcome cup of tea and some TV before bed. Just been a brilliant day (got to love retirement!)
