The theater that never was.

For many year I have attended the college at Westward Ho in Grimsby, and always wondered why there is a large curved mound at the back of the college. Today I came across an interesting news paper article telling the story of the mound. It was created in 1959 by the boys from the school as the college was then. In September 1959 it was opened by Dame Edith Evans who declared the theater as one of the most beautiful in the British Isles. Sadly apart for the official opening the theater was never used again. The Drama teacher who's idea it was left for a new post and the children who had helped to build the amphitheater left school. The next generation never had the enthusiasm for the theater so it was left to nature. The information I found was from an old photo copy of I think the Grimsby Telegraph, the writer was John Morton. An interesting story.
