The humble shed

What an absolutely wonderful day today has been. We had an early start from the hotel to gather at the Glasgow office where we got a minibus with the Glasgow new starters. Even a bleak drive all the way up past Loch Lomand is still a beautiful drive. We got to Dalmally where we were greeted by the founder of Mary’s Meals, Magnus, and his sister Ruth. We had freshly baked scones before heading out to the shed for some time with Magnus. I’m bowled over by his humility in the face of the incredible things this little organisation of his has done. Despite the fact that Mary’s Meals is now serving a daily meal to over 2.4 million children across the world, he’s confident that our story is just beginning. We are barely at chapter one, he says. With 67 million children across the world missing out on education, you can see why he would say that. I’m so inspired by meeting Magnus today, not because he’s an exceptional human being (though he is) but because of the manor in which he views this wonderful gift of a movement that somehow has fallen into his hands.

And this little shed serves as the global headquarters of Mary’s Meals, the place where it all began. If anyone is interested in reading the story, just let me know…I would be happy to share a copy.

I leave today feeling so privileged to be a part of this family and to serve such a cause. What a lucky girl I am.
