The American Civil War comes to Whittington

This weekend has been the American Civil War Society Reenactment.  O is a great history buff and has visited places in America connected to it. He and the family came to see it on the way to visit my brother and J.

Unfortunately the actual reenactment will be this afternoon but this morning had living history and drills. They were very keen to explain everything and an interesting fact was that their rifles were made in the RSAF factory in Enfield (London).

The photos are of O with the Confederates and three soldiers, the ones in green are the Unionists (New York Irish Regiment).  The latter did a rifle drill on the castle tower.  I had brought her sword and shield and joined in (from a distance).

They came from different areas. The man in the photo with O comes from Cumbria and works in the Derwnt pencil factory at Keswick so I found out about that too.
