Joan’s blips

Tiny Tuesday

Today’s optional challenge (April 4th) is to find tiny circles, dots, rings …
I have chosen a section of the dot painting by Aboriginal artist Jenny Wardrop. The painting is called ‘Goanna Creation’ and the full painting can be found in the extra. It was painted in 2003 and hangs in our local library.

Dot painting has been traditionally used by Aboriginal tribes and it is part of body painting for ceremonies. Their traditional story telling was also done in the sand using small circular stones. This traditional form of story telling art has only been put on canvas since 1971. It is used to tell the Aboriginal traditional stories of creation, the purpose of life and the sacredness of the land and all nature.

I have added a link below to an article that goes into the interesting history and symbolism of Aboriginal art for those who wish to learn more.
