Robert Goodfellow

Thank you for all your well wishes and kind words :) All good but confined to barracks though some gentle tours of the garden have been undertaken with the cat. A wet morning turned into a lovely afternoon and the herb robert was looking happy by the pond. The first offering for Miranda's wildflower week challenge for this year,  Herb robert is a member of the geranium family and good for nosebleeds apparently. In fact it seems to be good for most things and has an astonishing variety of names. Here's a few:
Stinking Bob (like burning rubber, I must give it another sniff)
kiss me love at the garden gate
death come quickly (just don't pick it!)
bloodwort
dolly's nightcap
And who is it named after, I'm sure you want to know:
Said to honor Saint Robert of Molesme, an 11th-century herbalist, abbot, and founder of the Cistercian order. Another theory has it named after Robin Goodfellow, pseudonym for the mischievous fairy or forest sprite Puck. “Robert Goodfellow” was also an alias used by the legendary bandit Robin Hood. Other theories associate the plant with St. Rupert of Salzburg (8th century) or St. Robert of Turlande, an 11th-century Benedictine priest who devoted his life to serving the poor.
